fertility

Enhancing Fertility
Fertility can be significantly impacted (either
positively or negatively) by nutrition, lifestyle,
and toxic exposure. There are many beneficial
ways to improve hormone balance and fertility in
natural ways – nourishing food, acupuncture,
reducing stress, and decreasing toxin load.
Even with the great advances in medicine, infertility
and miscarriages are not uncommon. We have
to ask, why? Is it a normal phenomenon? Certainly
some miscarriages are a natural protective mechanism
of life. However, many scientific studies show
environmental toxins have a measurable effect on
fertility and rates of miscarriage. We
now have more toxins in our environment than anytime
in history. Plastics are endocrine disruptors
and can cause infertility by unbalancing women’s
hormones. Many environmental toxins are known
to cause injury to fetuses – leading to increased
miscarriages.
While most women understand the importance of avoiding
toxins during pregnancy, many are unaware of the
danger of past exposure to toxins. These past
exposures (when unable to be detoxified) are stored
in the body. These toxins then stay in the
system, are stored in the fat, and can circulate
through the blood stream influencing hormonal balance
and having contact with the delicate fetus.
Nutrient deficiencies can also be associated with
infertility. As Americans, we often believe
we do not suffer from malnutrition or nutritional
deficiencies. This is not true. Much of our food is stripped of
nutrients during processing or grown in unhealthy soil, (as well as loaded
with
chemical additives). When there are not enough
nutrients to support the mother and baby through
pregnancy, the body's intelligent design protects
the mother by reducing fertility until carrying the
baby can be done healthfully and safely. Depending
on the health and dieting history of the mother (being
over or underweight, a history of eating disorders,
low nutrient reserves, etc.), a woman may see very
beneficial results in fertility from improving her
diet.
